What's actually going on: a Phob runs a microcontroller and hall sensors, so it pulls more current than the passive pot board it replaced. When an adapter struggles it's usually power or a mode switch, not the brand on the box. Plenty of adapters people write off online are fine once set up right.

If yours isn't showing up or is dropping inputs, go in this order:

1. 1. Flip it to Wii U / Switch mode

   If your adapter has a mode switch and it is sitting on PC, that alone explains most "my Phob is not showing up" reports. Switch it over and try again before you touch anything else.

2. 2. Give it more power

   A Phob pulls meaningfully more current than the stock pot board did. Go straight into a rear motherboard port instead of a front panel header or an unpowered hub, and plug in the second USB lead if your adapter has one.

3. 3. Check the driver side

   On PC your adapter needs native controller support set up. Slippi handles this for you during install.

No. Phobs are common at the top level of Melee and accepted at majors. The project is open source, so TOs can review exactly what the board does.
